An exclusive first-look at Sushisamba Covent Garden

Ahead of the launch of Sushisamba Covent Garden, which officially opens on November 1, the Standard can reveal an exclusive first-look at the new venue.

Back in 2016, the popular restaurant group announced plans for a new sitein Covent Garden, which was originally meant to open its doors in 2017.

Located in the Grade II listed Market Building, the new restaurant has a very different aesthetic to its Liverpool Street counterpart.

The bar and restaurant features “live” ceiling installation featuring South American and Japanese plants and the quirky decor continues with lanterns framing the exposed kitchen.

It boasts a 128-cover dining room, a sushi bar with 14 counter seats, a private dining room and a large terrace overlooking the Covent Garden Piazza.

Dishes on the new Covent Garden menu include pork belly with butterscotch miso, scallops with vanilla, jalapeño and mango, a Kobe bun with pickled onions and horseradish mayonnaise and octopus with peppers. A Samba Covent Garden roll will also be available, fusing tuna, salmon, yellowtail, white fish and avocado.

Patricia Gonzales, head of global brand – who also have branches in Miami, Las Vegas and Amsterdam – told the Standard: “The energy of Covent Garden and its international appeal make it a natural fit for Sushisamba’s second London location.

“The new Sushisamba has been designed with a mix of influences; drawing inspiration from the cultures of Japan, Brazil and Peru. We tried to keep true to the history of the landmark building, while putting our true ‘Samba’ stamp on it.

“Although, like all Sushisambas, there will be similarities. Each restaurant has its own unique identity which can be found in small elements of the menu and more boldly in the design.”
